The challenge

The green transition relies on a steady supply of critical and strategic minerals, such as lithium, cobalt, and rare earth elements. Yet current recovery technologies are either energy-intensive, chemically demanding, or financially unviable in Europe compared to mining operations in China and other Asian countries. Without scalable, cost-effective solutions, Europe faces supply bottlenecks, dependence on foreign sources, and environmental impacts from resource extraction.

The solution

Nordic Salt Cycle’s breakthrough molten salt technology provides a low-cost, scalable way to recover critical minerals from end-of-life products, including EV batteries, wind turbines, and electronics. Their modular process uses significantly less energy and chemicals than conventional methods, keeping materials in circulation longer and strengthening European resilience in critical mineral supply.
